THE VILLAGE BEE COMPANY
About
OUR STORY
Welcome!

My name is Leslie Best, and I'm the Founder of The Village Bee Company. My interest in bees started in 2018 when a friend acquired some hives, and I saw it as an exciting new hobby I could pursue; I just needed to figure out the logistics!
Spending a lot of time at my rural family home in Churchville, where I'd been caring for my parents and family property, I asked my father if I could put a hive in the backyard to which he greatly obliged. I was so thrilled that I ordered my first hive and took a beekeeping course to provide myself with all the necessary skills to care for them.
When the bees arrived, I was over the moon! I couldn't get enough of them, and I was always reading and trying to find more information about how to best care for them. There is ALWAYS so much to learn! Living with the bees and watching them every day was amazing and gave me so much joy.
Not knowing what to expect in my first year of beekeeping, I was shocked when the bees created pounds and pounds of surplus honey! Thinking of ways I could put the honey to good use, I began infusing the honey with cannabis to create a product I had not seen before. My initial product came in the form of 1 teaspoon biodegradable straws.
Moving into 2019, I continued to learn as much as possible and hone my skills as a beekeeper. I quickly multiplied my hives from 1 to 7, and then to 9 in Brampton and Caledon. However, developing a legal cannabis product in today's regulatory body became impossible! So, with that in mind, I pivoted my marketing strategy towards pure raw honey, and after selling jar after jar, I was thrilled to be sharing this sweet gift from the bees.
I take great pride in everything that I do, and I am proud of what The Village Bee Company has become. I currently have 24 hives throughout Erin, Hillsburgh, Caledon, Rockwood and Brampton and mentor for over a dozen more hives.
The Village Bee Company is as much a part of me as I am of it. You can see my personality and the significance of my hometown of Churchville in every aspect of The Village Bee Company, even down to the logo, which includes the iconic heritage Churchville Village green bridge!
Big Blessings
~Leslie
